HILLSPEAKING
from The Anglican Digest
TRANSFIGURATION A.D. 2007
Operation pass along is alive and well – and thriving – at
Hillspeak, due in no small measure to the help of a retired Episcopal
priest and his wife.
Reading about Pass Along in the Lent ‘07 issue of THE ANGLICAN DIGEST,
they reasoned that if it were falling behind in its purpose and
operation it must be in need of help. They closed up their house
in central Arkansas, drove to Hillspeak, moved into the Calf Barn, and
for a week, worked every day to help us catch up with the
backlog. Having caught us up, they bid us good-bye with the
charge that if we fell behind again we were not to hesitate to call
upon them. Without their help, we undoubtedly would still be
trying to catch up.
Now we can once again invite those who have books, primarily about the
Church, they no longer want or need to send them to Hillspeak where we
will attempt to find good homes for them – around the world. We
are caught up with clericals, vestments, and altar fittings as well and
are, on an almost daily schedule, filling requests at home and abroad.
While all books about religious matters are welcome, we particularly
need books listed as “most wanted” (see page 54). This list
includes books needed for the Foland Library as well. Aside from
printed matter, we have standing requests from priests and seminarians
in Third World countries for patens, chalices, cassocks, stoles, and
chasubles.
If you just happen not to have any of the above but want to help
Operation Pass Along, we can always use extra funds to help pay for
postage to such places as Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, the Solomon
Islands, Uganda or Zambia – to which we have passed along books and
other items since the first of the year.
My grandson recently completed his first solo in flight training and
e-mailed me that he came back to earth with a “warm, fuzzy
feeling.” You might just achieve the same effect by helping Pass
Along.
